This month, we’re proud to highlight two incredible members of our community: Ms. Brandy and Ms. Richelle; alongside their loved ones, Sean and Mr. Rene. Their stories reflect the strength, dedication, and love that define caregiving every day.

Ms. Brandy & Sean: A Story of Love and Resilience

Sean is a 29-year-old living with autism and epilepsy, and his mother, Ms. Brandy, is his devoted guardian and caregiver. Her inspiration comes from a deep desire to give Sean a fulfilling, happy life, no matter the challenges, and from the strong example of love and support set by her own parents.

Caring for Sean comes with challenges. He is nonverbal, making communication difficult, and his epilepsy requires constant, 24/7 monitoring. Despite this, Ms. Brandy remains committed to his safety, comfort, and happiness.

LIn recent months, Sean has made meaningful progress: expressing more of his personality and expanding his vocabulary. He’s become more independent at home, helping with daily tasks and chores. With consistent support and encouragement, Ms. Brandy continues to nurture his communication skills and growing independence.

With her support and the support of his Service Coordinator: Ms. Joelda Abilome, Sean has also found spaces to thrive and live a fuller, more enriched life. Her hope is to see him keep growing, becoming more independent and confident in his own way.

Ms. Richelle & Mr. Rene: A Journey Toward Independence

Ms. Richelle, the sister of Mr. Rene, began her caregiving journey with a deep passion for helping her brother live a life filled with joy, purpose, and independence. Her goal is not just to support him, but to ensure he continues to grow and thrive as he moves into his golden years.

One of the biggest challenges has been finding ways to help Mr. Rene transition from simply living with a disability to actively engaging in life. Through patience and creativity, Ms. Richelle has supported him in building everyday skills: like cooking, traveling, managing daily routines, and gaining confidence in expressing himself.

One of the most meaningful milestones has been Mr. Rene’s determination to say, “Let me do it myself.” This powerful mindset reflects his growing self-confidence and desire for independence, marking a shift from receiving care to actively shaping his own life. With her support and that of his Service Coordinator, Ms. Comfort Foffie, Mr. Rene continues to build confidence, access new opportunities, and live a more active and enriched life.

Looking ahead, Ms. Richelle envisions a future where they continue supporting one another: working together to build a life that is active, fulfilling, and meaningful, whether at home or in a supported living environment.

The Impact of Direct Support

These stories show that caregiving is about more than support—it’s about helping people grow, find their voice, and gain independence. Through patience, love, and consistency, Ms. Brandy and Ms. Richelle are making that possible every day. And in those everyday moments, real progress happens.
