Staff Spotlight: Meet Kha'Deisha Warren

This month, we are proud to shine a light on Kha’Deisha Warren, a dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) whose commitment to the person she serves goes far beyond the scope of a job description. Kha’Deisha supports Joshua Philips, with the collaborative partnership of Service Coordinator Natassja Wiley and guardians Gloria Philips and Monica Warren.

A Calling Rooted in Purpose

Kha’Deisha’s journey in caregiving began in 2016, when she joined a day program and discovered a vocation that would shape her life. Her motivation was both personal and purposeful: she recognized a significant gap in representation, a shortage of young African American professionals in the IDD care field, and made a deliberate choice to step in and make a difference. What started as a career decision has grown into a deeply personal mission. For Kha’Deisha, showing up is a statement about community, belonging, and equity in care.

Strength in the Juggle

Like many DSPs, Kha’Deisha wears multiple hats. Balancing full-time work with being a full-time mom is no small feat, yet she meets both responsibilities with grace and determination. Rather than allowing these demands to diminish her impact, they have deepened her appreciation for the meaningful work she does every day.

What keeps her going? Watching Joshua grow. “It makes me proud that I’m helping Joshua learn new skill sets to get him further in life,” she says. That pride is the heartbeat behind everything she does.

A Bond Built Over a Decade

Kha’Deisha and Joshua’s relationship represents a bond that is both beautiful and rare. Their connection creates a foundation of trust that makes all the difference. Together, they are navigating new milestones: Joshua is learning to ride the Metro independently and expanding his social circle by meeting new friends in the community.

These achievements reflect MHI’s core belief in community integration and the power of person-centered support. Every Metro ride Joshua takes is a victory, for him and for the team rallying beside him.

Kha’Deisha Warren exemplifies what it means to empower someone with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) to live with dignity and purpose.
