Staff Spotlight: The amazing people that make us!

The people behind our care: two Mercyland DSPs and the people they support.

Mercyland Direct Support Professional Eleonore, who supports Mrs. Cheryl. Our care is shaped by the people who provide it.

At Mercyland Healthcare, our Direct Support Professionals bring dignity and consistency to everyday life through lived experience, compassion, and dedication. This staff spotlight shares the stories of two caregivers whose journeys into care began with family and continue with purpose.

Staff spotlight: Eleonore

Mrs. Eleonore supports Mrs. Cheryl, and she brings compassion, patience, and purpose to her work every day. She became a DSP because she loves helping others reach their goals and make real progress. The role can be challenging, especially when communication and understanding are affected. Even so, Mrs. Eleonore finds her greatest fulfillment in seeing Mrs. Cheryl grow more independent.

Their work together is paying off. Mrs. Cheryl has opened up more and is more engaged in her activities at the senior center. These are small steps, and they count a lot.

Thanks to the dedication of Mrs. Eleonore, the guidance of Service Coordinator Mrs. Rolanda Marshall, and the support of her niece, Mrs. Teakita, Mrs. Cheryl has found new opportunities to grow, thrive, and live more independently.

Mrs. Eleonore also points to the importance of self-care. She encourages other caregivers to stay patient, organized, and mindful of their own well-being. Looking ahead to 2026, her goal is simple and powerful: to bring joy and happiness to the person she supports, no matter the situation.

Dedicated care through experience and heart: Jean Christian’s story with Rasheed

Jean Christian, Direct Support Professional at Mercyland, who supports Rasheed.
Jean Christian brings life experience and heart to his work with Rasheed.

For Jean Christian, caregiving is more than a job. It is a calling shaped by life experience. His journey began while caring for his late brother after a life-changing accident. There, he learned not only how to provide care, but how to love the work.

Since coming to the U.S. in 2019, he has continued that path, supporting Rasheed with patience, consistency, and compassion. Routines and community outings once presented challenges, but progress and trust have made a meaningful difference.

Rasheed has shown real growth in how he communicates his needs. With the support of his DSP, his Service Coordinator, Mr. Kishiro Easterling, and his sister, Kendra, he has learned to express more clearly when he needs attention or support. That progress has helped him reduce repeated bio-break requests and build healthier communication skills.

Jean Christian says he finds his greatest satisfaction in helping others and celebrating growth, especially Rasheed’s love of singing, connecting with people, and taking part in daily activities. His story reflects the heart of Mercyland: care grounded in experience, resilience, and dignity.

Stories like these remind us that meaningful care is built on patience, trust, and heart. We are grateful for the dedication our staff bring each day, and for the lasting impact they make in the lives of the people we support. Call us: 202-525-1563.  Visit: mercylandhi.com
